    Kaiser FJ and Kaiser Wilhelm I.

    Dear members,

    As a researcher of the kurhessian House order of the Golden Lion, I know both Emperor Franz-Joseph and Kaiser Wilhelm I received it. I know there is a book on the orders and decorations of Wilhelm I, and I wonder if anyone of our members have it and/or are able to check the date of knighthood, or a picture of the Emperor wearing it.

    I am also looking for the awarddate of the austrian Emperor Franz-Joseph.

    Hope one of you is able to help me out here.

    Thanks

    David

    Sorry, can't help here, but it'll really have to be a chance find. Wilhelm I. acceded to the Prussian throne in 1864, and in 1866 the Electorate of Hesse-Kassel was incorporated into Prussia. Inconceiveable that he wore the Löwenorden after that. Frequently, the plethora of "foreign" awards bestowed on royals as a matter of soft diplomacy were only worn on special occasions connected with the awarding state. So it'll be a matter of finding a pre-1866 picture of him as king or crown prince (if he already had it before 1864).

    Regards, Karl

      Dear Karl, thanks for your reply.

      I hoped one of the members here would have had a copy of the book:

      ErdientundVerdient! - Die Orden, militärischen Ehrenzeichen und Kriegs-Denkmünzen Seiner Majestät des Deutschen Kaisers und Königs von Preußen. Wilhelm I
      <!-- NAME: result/published_de.tpl -->Offenbach, PHV-Verlag, 1999. Nachdruck der Ausgabe Berlin 1875

      As I understands it lists the orders and decorations of Wilhelm I., and the kurhessian House Order as well, hopefully with an award-date.
