It's the Austrian 1873 War Medal. Awarded for service in Bosnia 1878-1880 (also 1882) and for service in China 1900-1902. It also went to Austrian troops in WWI prior to the death of Franz Joseph in 1916.

The box far more unusual than the medal.

Unfortunately, there's no way to differentiate. Even as part of a group, it's often very hard to tell.
