    Good Job!

    Mark,
I have seen your site, it is excellent. Great job! Being a soldier, I have worked for Generals. Consequently, you will never see a single General's item in this house. So I have no Imperial General items to show. Keep up the good work on your web site, and keep adding to it. It is a remarkable collection. Tony http://www.kaisersbunker.com

Tony - I've never worked for a General, but I did have my ass chewed out once by a Major General after calling President Reagan "Ronnie." I am dying to know what the "inside" story is on why we will never see a single General's item in your house.

        Few Men

        PD Sarge,

I did not mean to be so harsh in my opinion......... But since you asked........I have this vision of the pompous General officer, sitting at a table being served smoked pheasant and drinking wine while the soldiers who fight the wars, lay dying in the blood and mud of Flanders. There are, of course, exceptions, General Currie of the CEF, chastised for the being too close to the front lines "too often" and many others. However, due to my 25 years in the Army as a WO and my bad experiences, I focus in my collecting on the men who fight the wars; the soldiers, the men who carry the rifles, the men who lay in the trench sucking blood-soaked water while the Generals dine on partridge and lobster. So, you will see on my web site, a focus on Other Ranks items. Not Generals. Tony http://www.kaisersbunker.com

          Tony,

I don't agree completely with your views about generals. They were in the trenches from time to time in order to see how the front looked, to see in what conditions the men lived etc. It was a very bad general who was never in the trenches...
They couldn't be in the frontline continuously because you need the command back for communication and overview. They also had to bear the responsibility over the lives of thousands of men (and quite a few couldn't live with the horrible losses).
However, I agree their lifestyle could have been somewhat more sober.

            "generalized" comment

            Jan,
You are of course correct, my feelings are based only on a rather ugly experience with one General. I meant no offense of course. T
