    Prussian Shooting award?

I aquired this with a collection of German Stamps that I bought rescently.

The inscription on the back says "Dem Besten Schutzen"
    or "The Best Shooter" Translated.

It is inscribed with (1842 and E. Mues) also. I assume the year awarded and the name of the shooter.

It is tarnished like silver, so I will assume it is silver.
    My question is,
    Is this Military?
    Is it Rare?
    Any info would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Scott

It's not military, but rather an award given by one of the countless "Schiess-Vereine", or shooting clubs, which existed in Germany. I have a similar item, although it's a cross and dated much later. Yours is an early example but I have no idea on value.
