Here are four from Jason in Australia. Faced with the sickeningly absurd atrocity propaganda churned out by the Allies 1914-15 (which would return to haunt them in WW2, when nobody believed REALITY then), Germany "hit back" with gentle mocking counterpropaganda like this, titled "The 'Huns" in Belgium"

Kitsch, of course, was universal. Here we have-- change the language and uniforms, and ANY of the combatant countries put out horrible dreck like this--
a tidily arranged "Glad to die for his country" tableau, "Last thoughts of mommy."
Reality was quite different, obviously! I've always wondered who SENT cards like this-- I have a large framed print of a British Tommy with a neat bullet hole between his eyes being smiled down upon by a crucified Christ, with similar poetic drivel. Yuck!!!!!Attached Files

That ain't his Mommy...
Rick, in the "Last thoughts of Mommy", thats his sweetheart, not mom. I actually have a whole set of these showing her seeing him off to war, this is the last one of the set, obviously.
Aside from the kitsch and the uncontrollable giggles that these images induce, these are really beautiful well-made postcards. Its amazing how they look after 80+ years.
I do not collect postcards specifically buy have accumulated various odds and ends over time, I should post them here some time, you guys will get a kick out of them.

I was fooled by her corseted matronly bosom: she has the same figure as my great-grandmother when she was 60!
Here's an ORIGINAL photo from my collection that still gives us the willlies--
since she looks like Larry Fine in drag, we can only hope that she was his mommy and not his fiancée!!!Attached Files
