    1914 EK2 Prinzen opinions

Was able to get photos of this item that will be at an auction. It is 35mmX35mm. Three piece construction with magnetic center. The detail is good, however the crown looks a little funny in my opinion. The frame is a very dull silver. No patina so its been cleaned and has some white powder residue on the core. What are your opinions and also what realistic value would you put on this item as I am interested in buying it.

Here is the best detail I can get of the crown - where is the cross - it may be under the frame, but its not clear to me. What do you all think???

What about the detail of the oakleaves? Is it really as unclear as it appears on my monitor?

Hard to say - there is a little wear to the one on the left (as you look at it) with corosion. Here is an angled photo that might show it a little better.

The condition of the core does not match the condition of the frame to me. The core looks like a sand cast core.

Soooo....fake? Junk? Not worth my time?? Not worth anything?? Its just an interesting piece as they never come up for sale here in Hungary. And as I like EK2's from both WW's I am curious. As for sand casting, the front has very good detail like other 1914 EK2's I have. The back is worn and pitted - I think someone tired to clean it at one point - but you are right the frame looks 'clean' and some anoying white powder stuck in the recesses of the core might be the reside from the cleaning agent...anyone else...

It looks to be a 'blued' steel core example to me. The condition while not the greatest may clean up a bit. I'm not seeing anything that makes me worry about it's originality.

The pitting on the reverse may make it seem a sand casting. The pitting may be the result of the cross laying on wool or some other material that absorbed some moisture.

I would wager that when looked at in hand the core is the stamped sheet steel type that was chemicaly blued.

I also believe it is original, but perhaps just not the highest quality. Still a good piece.

It's just an opinion, but I lean more towards "good" than "bad."

This thing is going up for auction here and as I would like to 'round' out the 1914 EK2 collection - what would be a 'good' price for the piece? I dont see many prinzens up for sale so I have little reference to go on.

Well - since no one posted a good price for this I went and got it at the auction for the same price of a worn out 'KO' maker marked EK1 - I think I did OK...And with a little cleaning with a tissue did remove alot of the white powder and other defects.
