Without more detail, I would presume this to be german infantryman with the rank of corporal (the collar tresse). The color of the tunic makes me think he might be bavarian, who wore a much lighter shade of blue vs. the other states.
I would like to offer an opinion on your question. If the uniform is green and if the gold trim on the collar denotes a noncommissioned officer, your man may well have been in one of several Imperial German Jäger units.
Plate C of Jäger & Schutzen by Kinna and Moss shows a virtually identical uniform (worn by a color bearer) except that the gold/yellow trim on the collar is narrower.
