        Hi Andy,
I looked at this one also.
The cross itself is ok as is the backing plate. The screw is either something
that just happened to fit or the a navy button has been some how attached to the screw to spruce it up. It does look like a good Imp. navy button . Maybe Tony(Tony&Kaiser) could confirm that. I have never heard of or seen any reference to a "Marine" Ek. BTW-That cross has been on ebay before. I remember questions about it a few years ago.

          Andy,
Naval officers shoulder boards were attached with a female threaded post with a flat base. This base has holes through which it is sewn to the uniform. The btton hole on the board is then placed over the post and a button device which has a male threaded post is then placed into the female threaded post and screwed down. This allows for easy removal of the boards when the uniform has to be cleaned. This type of device has been used by many of the world navies on their officers uniforms (including the US).
What is on the EK 1 is one of the button devices with the male threaded post. Apparently it was handy and just happened to fit the threads, so it was used. Some people who like only textbook awards would not purchase this. Frankly I like this since it personalizes the cross and shows it was most likely worn by a naval officer.
