Hi,
At Beltring this year I aquired the dug nose cone of a WWI German shrapnel shell. The diameter of the base is approx 135mm and it has a brass Doppelzunder 92 fuse attached to the end.
I've since cleaned it all to bare metal and was toying with the idea of filling in the pitting and repainting the exterior steel the correct colour.
My own research suggests the colour is sort of bluish-grey. However, I haven't been able to pin it down accurately. Can anyone give me the specific colour and let me know how to recreate it? Any other info on the calibre shell it came from and a good way of smoothing off pitted steel gratefully accepted.
Thanks,
Mark
