    Prussian Guard

    Hey all,

Sorry to bother you with yet more questions but were can I find out as much as possible about the Prussian Guard or what can you tell me?

    Hello,

There were a lot of regiments (infantry, cavalry, artillery, ...), in fact a whole (peacetime) army corps and a cavalry division of the prussian guard. Each regiment/battalion has at least one ww1 regimental history. What exactly do you want to know? There is even a 'Ehrenbuch der Preussischen Garde', covering all guard units...

    Greetings from Flanders,
    Jan

      The Guard

Lawdy, that's one big subject. To get a good overall digest of their uniforms- 'The Kaiser's Army' Charles Wooley, published by Schiffer Military History Books. Some basic differences- The Guard eagle worn on pickelhaubes, cavalry helmets etc. Much bigger than standard Prussian eagle. Larger litzen, (Lace) at collar & cuffs. Also some unique uniform items, eg the tall metal mitre cap worn by senior Grenadier regiments. For headgear, dip into 'The Pickelhaube' by J.A. Bowman. Hope that kick starts you !
