I did a tour with a Bundeswehr Artillery Battery in my early days. My "Spiess" was a refugee from the east and still retained many Prussian charecteristics. The other NCO's use to joke that he would buy two pairs of gloves to wear with his uniform, one to wear and the other to slap the sides of his legs.
When I left, he presented me with an old sabre that he said was from a Prussian Cavalry Regiment, but didn't remember which one. It is made by E & F Horster, Solingen. Nothing special about the blade, this was made to use not a presentation piece (except to me). What is distinctive is that the hand guard is painted white on the inside and the sides as well. The outside of the hand guard and the top portion of the handle is painted black. The cross guards are white on the top and bottom while the sides are also painted black. The top portion of the metal grip (shaped to look like wood) is painted black and the middle metal retainer and bottom metal portion above the hilt are painted black as well. The metal handle however is painted white. The scabbard is mainly painted black except the bottom metal flange and the metal attachment for the sabre hanger being painted white. Any Help with a regimental ID would be appreciated
