    1870 Ek Ii

    Hello,

What is your opinion on this 1870 EK II?? The rim and suspension look like later models to me. Note how the 1870 date is off center; could this be a later issue that was goofed up by a faker?
    Thanks,
    Cesar.

I would have to say nope! This just doesn't have the quality of an 1870 EKII. It looks like some of the fakes I have seen in EK's. Is that frosting I see as well on the beading?

        Nope

I think this bad guy -- the ultra-rare "187" EK2 -- has been posted here before....

Sorry but this is a fake, the easiest way to detect this is the core is too large for the frames, if you do a search though the past threads you should dig up more of these. 1870 EKs were always of very high quality.

I agree---a fake. Beware of 1870 and 1913 EKI's made with same core and frame. Anyone remember ColtAuto? He tried to pawn the EK1 versions off on eBay and Epier as original.

              Greg:
Yes, that is frosting, I don't have the medal with me but I recall some details.
              Thanks again fellows.

Could it be that this cross has got a relly thick and fat grooved frame?

The frame looks very much like a WWII EK II.

This unscrupulous faker is probably using the same frame set to churn out fake 1939 EKs as well.
