BLACKENED Bavarian MVK 3 with crown/swords!

Just got this one from ebay. A blackened (!!!) Bavarian MVK 3. Class with crown and swords?????? It is NOT made of zinc!
It came with a paper-case with makers-mark for Gebr. Hemmerle. Someone ever seen such a version of this cross??

It is really the "standart" cross made in copper-plated bronze, but it was blackened. Very very strange!

Weird! So they had a standard one and chemically changed it to look like the 1919-20 Kriegsmetall ones?!!!

I have no idea and I have never seen such a MVK or heard/read about these.

Any more opinions on this more than strange cross?

Bought up again due Dave Danners website update with MVKs.

I have asked all dealers I know, but none of them has an idea what type of MVK this is and why it is painted. But they have encountered some of these crosses too, so it seems they are NOT privately painted. A MVK-Mystery?

              Jens,

Are the swords in Iron (magnetic)? The difference of value between a normal MVK 3. Kl. mit Kr. u. X and a Zinc one is quite huge (according Nimmergut's O&E Catalogue). Therefore, the temptation to paint it to artificially raise the value is quite big. Maybe you're lucky and it is really a late war Zinc piece... I've seen one in Stuttgart for Eur 350.- !

              Ciao,

              Claudio

P.M.: I've got one and the swords are magnetic...

Claudio, it is definately painted copper. No iron and no zink, the paint is old and genuine. In the pictures the color looks grey like the zink type, but thats the scan. In real the color is more like a very dark red and don't look like grey zink.
