Hi Guys, I just found this pic of Vizewachtmeister Wilhelm Sambo in a German book and I thought you might be interested to see it. He was the last black man serving with the German Army. He was Pauker (Drummer) with the Leib Garde Husaren Regiment in Potsdam and he died in 1935 in Koeln. He originated from Cameroon. I am sure that most of you probably knew about this man, but I did not and I was quite surprised to see the pic... anyhow, it says in the book that there were other black men serving in German Regiments, apart from those that served in the Colonies, and I was wondering if any of you had pics of any of these men to share? Cheers, Torsten.

I don't have a scan of it per se (and it's also probably pretty well known to most), but on p.120 of Charles Woolley's recent 'German Uniforms, Insignia & Equipment 1918-1923', there's an excellent photo of an NCO from East Africa serving in Gen. von Lettow-Vorbeck's Freikorps in Munich, May 1919. Technically, I guess he's not part of the Reichswehr, but he is in uniform, and in Germany, which for me, is rare for any Ostafrikakämpfer...
