Got this fellow along with some WWI Trench Art (on shells), a WWII USMC SMG pouch, Shoulder holster, and a Jap Bayonet. All from the same family - the WWI items from the guys Grandfather, the WWII items were his fathers. Haube hasn't been messed with, but has seen better days. From this site and internet searching I gather that it is an enlisted infantrymans haube. That's about all I know. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to get an idea of what a fair price would be for this piece as I plan on posting it here. From some of the Ebay auctions I've checked it seems that around $200 would be fair. That sound about right? Thanks and take care.

Tim,
I would say closer to $350-$400, or more. Parted out, the chinstrap and the removable spike are worth $100 each. Do not part it out, I am just making a point. You already have the name and regiment of the original German owner , Unteroffizier (corporal) Steinwehr ? of the 20th Infanterie Regiment). If you include a history of where it came from, Vets name, Regiment , Division , where he captured it, etc. it makes a plain helmet more desirable. And makes it worth more. We can also find where his unit and the German unit collided and document the area of probable capture. This is about preserving history and that is the history of the helmet. If you do not preserve this history no one else can.

Thanks
Thanks fellas. I would never part-out the haube - as you said, it is about preserving history. I tried desperately to get the unit history of the grandfather and father. Unfortunately all I got was that his father was a Marine in the Pacific during WWII - a given as the Jap Bayo came with the USMC pouch. I'll post at a fair price on the site. Hope it goes to a good home. Thanks again & take care.
