    EK1 1914 Engraved

    Hi,

I think this is quite nice engraved EK, but can you help me with the maker? It was awarded 03091918, if it helps.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Juergen,

Very nice cross!! I really like the engraving!

Is the obverse imagine taken a slight angle? The crown appears misshapen. Maybe a flaw? The date appears a bit off too.

      Thanks!

Yes, the obverse photo is magnification from bigger photo of the grouping and taken from slight angle. This is the only photo I have at the moment of the obverse as the grouping is packed away. The cross is also convex.

Yes also for me the engraving looks very convincing.
I must say it's not the best quality engraving i have seen but in handwork is many difference
and i believe this one to be period.
Other items from these group look fine too.

Beautiful cross and engravings. Was he a pilot?

I would be proud to have that cross in my own collection.

Agreed, absolutely correct engraving for the period. Compare with the completely fake engraving on the posted Kampfwagenabzeichen.

Yes he was, but I don't have a single photo of him with the pilot badge and only one in flight gear. But here's a photo of him with this EK in Freikorps 1919 with Kampfwagen.

Here we have our guy in the middle with his Kampfwagen named after him.

A truly attributable engraved 1914 EK1 to a pilot is among my top five wish items for my collection.

It seems that some recent posts in this forum have disappeared, so I'll re-post the photo of the guys in Königsberg February 1920 (back from Latvia).

                              Hi,

can anyone read his name ?, then I might have more info on him.

I read Hptm Erdmann below. There existed an Hptm Friedrich Erdmann who was an commander of an Freikorps aviation unit.
