    Bavarian Military Merit Order with Swords - 4th Class

    Beautiful Bavarian Military Merit Order with Swords - 4th Class. Lots of markings on the reverse. 950 on the cross, 900 on the swords and ring with a maker's mark JL. for Jacob Leser of Straubing.

    It came in this box but I don't think it is original to the medal. It is a sliding drawer type.

      Very nice cross you've acquired. And you're correct... the box is not original to the cross. It belongs to a late-war Bavarian MVK, not an MVO.

      What strikes me as unique about the reverse side this cross is the silver frame of the bottom arm. Have you noticed how much wider the frame is on the reverse side of this one arm? I've only seen this wide frame version a few times before on Leser crosses so it must be a rarity.

        Good spot about the frame. Sadly there is a chip on one of the horizontal arms if you look closely.

          Nice example, and the frame thickness was a trademark of Leser. The Schiebe-Etui was used for later issues of the MVK.

            This is correct. It is only one of the interesting aspects that makes up the pantheon of interesting aspects of collecting Imperial German medals and orders.
