huh???
herr nickel-
beautiful bars!
i have been thinking about this combatant EK for war merit
at the home front.
i can find nothing in hamelman's EK documents of WW 1.
i have not heard about any regulations or specific institution
of this cross.
there is no specific mention in previtara's or williamson's books.
can anyone direct me to a copy of the document or regulations?
my humble thanks.

Very nice bars WNickel! I especially love colonial service groups. Joe, I too have been looking for documentation on the EK on war ribbon with no luck. Of course this has thrown me off my original track of seeking info on the number of Reuss 3rd's awarded w/Crown, the issue of dark blue backing for Navy?, and any hints of where I could go next in seeking any background on the bar's owner or his vocation. Still hopeful someone will help fill-in any of the gaps in my knowledge.

I think these books/authors you list forgot something really important.
It was an official order by Wilhelm II. from march 16, 1915. Compare Hessenthal/Schreiber "Die Ehrenzeichen des Deutschen Reiches", page 359.

Thanks!!
jens,
not only in the Hessenthal and Schreiber, p.359,
but also in Nimmergut, Vol 2, page 1051.
the iron cross second class on the combatant
ribbon "fur Heimat Verdienste".
you get the non-official, but highly coveted
"uncoverer of obscure-but important!!-information"
award for the third quarter of 2005!!
you, sir, have been doing your homework!
thanks,
joe

Originally posted by Bobby leeOk guys, As usual I am looking to the left as the ball is coming from the right! I was focused on the orders and never thought about the EK. So, help me out here. What I now see is a non-combat EK on combat ribbon, A Reuss order (on war ribbon by the way) with crown, a SEHO 1st class and a 20 reserve LS. The Reuss w/Crown and the SEHO 1st indicate to me a more senior officer. I would think a Prussian Crown might have found it's way on there too. So what was this guy doing to receive such attention away from the front? Medical? Here I've been looking at navy, duh. Any ideas to help with the research is appreciated.
Many Thanks,

An Honor Cross 3rd Class with Crown and a SEHO Knight 1st Class would be standard for a Hauptmann/Kapitän-Leutnant, or a Stabsarzt/Marinestabsarzt for medical personnel.

Been gone a few days, thanks for the help guys. Dave, For a Prussian, which this fellow appears to be, should he not have gotten at least a Prussian Crown Order after being so recognized with the special EK? I would think after getting a couple of higher grade orders form Reuss and Saxon Duchies that his own State would not have awarded him so. Thoughts?
Best regards to all,
Bobby

Fact is that one did not have to receive a Crown order 4th class while/or after receiving a 20 year long service cross. Those were awarded for good conduct/long service after more then 20 years of service.
The presense of those knight crosses also suggests that he did not have any Prussian neck orders. like a Order of the Crown 2nd class.

Originally posted by JensF.It is due the non-combatant Hindenburg Cross. There were three versions of the EKII 1914:
-On combatant ribbon
-Non combatant ribbon
-Combatant ribbon for war merits at home
The last one can only be identified by the presence of a certificate or on a medal-bar with the non-combatant Hindenburg Cross. Here we have the rarest of all three version!
Thanks!
