    925 markings

Can some one enighten me in regards to "925"being a legitimate imperial marking.
I always thought "925" was a british stirling mark, and was also used on continental silver ware.
I know it definately shouldnt appear on third reich awards.

So,is it acceptable on imperial awards such as ek,s and such?

    regards keifer

    Hi Keifer,
My understanding is that .925 was commonly used in Germany until the Third Reich. I have seen this marking on legitimate Meybauer pieces, such as the commemorative pilot's badge. Unfortunately there is no way to determine if it was made during the war or in the 1920's or 1930's as many Imperial awards were. Sorry, I have no idea if or how often it has appeared on EK's. This is an interesting subject and I'd like to hear from others.

Bad Bill! Bad! Bad!!!! You may NOT have that MVO4X with Crowns Stogie-Rick is snuffling up!

YES-- 925 IS a perfectly good pre-Third Reich silver mark-- I assume for the "snob appeal" of being "British sterling," which it was. I have wartime Turkish awards made there in 925 and a variety of 1920s pieces like a 1918 wound badge also with that fineness.

NOT (Bad Bill!) an Imperial "problem" at all.

What prompted me to ask this was that detlev had an ek1(i think it was an ek1) marked 925 for sale, and i just wanted to see what the story was with 925 markings.
I didnt think he would advertise an obvious bogus piece ,and my assumption that 925 being bad in reference to imperial was wrong!

            Thanks guys
