I saw a non folding one today with saw teeth on one side, is this a feature ongerman ones ?

The only reference that I have ever seen to a German version of the saw-edged Spaten was in a military Nachfolger catalog. In other words, privately purchased examples were available. I believe that the Austrians actually issued these and I have an example with the original brown paint and leather Austrian style carrier.

Ah, I see it is French and date stamped 1879 ! I did not know they had such things.
