I've been asked to evaluate this piece but rather than enter my comments now, here are several shots. Please, no thumbs up or down, give comments, not opinions.

give comments, not opinions.

1) really, really, really poor/crude obverse detail.
2) apparent copper basemetal for the obverse.
3) apparent brass plate/sheet for the reverse.
4) the combination of 2) and 3) is like nothing I've seen on any period badge.
5) very strange hinge.
6) looks old based on the verdigris/oxidisation around the eyes - 20 years or 80 years old though?
7) really, really, really poor/crude obverse detail.

Thanks for the analysis Mike. I think this is what Mike is looking for in detail.

The backside looks to have Third Reich era hardware/setup and the detail is really lacking. Like it was carved out of butter and then allowed to melt for a few minutes in the sun. Very poor quality in my opinion.

Also, you can't really depict any of the carnage portrayed in the one in question as you can see in the second, more quality executed badge.

Although it does look like chopped up bodies, that 'carnage' is actually meant to be rolls of barbed wire and trenches.
