Here's a subject I don't remember ever being addressed. The rank buttons of the various states. Each had its own distinctive design. Here are some examples.

There were 2 sizes, the smaller for EM and the larger for NCO's. The 10 pfennig coin ( about the size of a US nickel) is used for comparison.

During th War they were painted grey (left) rather than the bright gold to reduce visibility.

C'mo, someone, what are the pair with the Prussian shields? I've got a shiny set of tunic buttons to match, but no idea what they go on.

It is Herzogtum, not Herzogthurm

It is Schutztruppen, not Schuetztruppen.
