    posing Germans

I recently got hold on a couple of photographs of some German soldiers which were quartered in my town of Kapellen during WW I.

I can't "read" imperial uniforms, but my guess is they are Bavarians.
They all have different collars, and the second from the left hasn't got exactly a Prussian EK2. ribbon through his button hole...

    Any chance of identifying these?

    Hello,

I guess Kappelen was Etappe or even Generalgouvernement? Then it's very difficult to identify certain units. If you're lucky, you can find something in the village archives from the period...

It was GG. I am a member of the local history society, but we don't have much about this period concerning quartered units.
One card is dated 9-6-1916 on the back.
I did find that in october 1914, after the siege of Antwerp, some 100 Marineinfanteristen were quarted in Kapellen.
Few days later they were relieved by a squadron Kurassiers from Bavaria. In december 14 they were relieved by Prussians, did not find which unit. They stayed the rest of the war. Sometimes, about 3.000 men were quartered all over town, all relieved from front duty.

      Thanks for answering

From their swords these guys are most likely Prussian. Definitely not Bavarian style hilts.

Well, the soldiers in your town were normally part of a Landsturm-Infanterie-Bataillon or other mostly older soldiers that were commanded to one or other Ortskommandantur. There's very little information about that in books, the only place you can find more is in the town archives (requisitions papers, the bills of the town etc.).
