Hi,
I was looking through my 1914 EK1s today and noticed something. I have two crosses which I thought of as Friedlander (sp) due to their markings however on closer inspection I note that the cross on the left is marked "FR" and the one on the right is marked "Fr." (note capitalisation and period). Both markings are small, incuse relief and located just below the catch - unfortunately almost impossible for me to image.
The variations in hinge/pin/catch didn't really strike me as odd but the crosses turn out to be different sizes (apparent in the scan) with different beading characteristics and the obverse features of the crown and date (particularly the 4) are also quite different.
My question is, which one of the 2 is the Friedlander and who made the other cross (Bowen suggest maybe Frank & Reif)?
Regards
Mike K
