Hi guys,
A question. How did Tattie and Lolle (assuming Rick's translation is correct) acquire/purchase the EK for it to be inscribed? I thought only recipients with their award docs could buy seconds/replacements? Or is that just for Third Reich awards? Maybe a bottle of schnapps for the award maker?!

The ISSUE pieces were all flat-- vaulted pieces were private purchase. Either gifts were allowable from any military effects store, or one of the presenters, eligible himself, bought a duplicate for "himself" and had it engraved.
This sort of private, "secret" personal gift inscription seems fairly common, second only to the recipients' recording their own names and relevant commemorative dates and places-- most of which must have been done AFTER the war, as Security No-Nos!
