That takes first place in the "most unusual" category IMO.

Wasn't one of these fakes with the wrong core, frame, maker's mark and hardware discussed here quite recently?

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

Yes, it was, although that example was far more convincing than this one.

Thanks guys, I had recently bought the cross from eBay seller "aerowallah".

I did not realize that it is a fake. Sorry!

Sorry guys! I should have vetted it here!

Don't know if he'll give me a refund or not on it. Probably not. I'll keep everyone posted.

              Thanks again!

                I like the safety catch!

                Alan,

Whenever I see an EKI with very round center beading I proceed with a little extra caution. This is by no means a definitive way of determine authenticity but I see a lot of repro's with this feature and I find it a good place to start when everything else looks good. However, this one has a lot of other red flags.

I hope you get your money back but while you have it in hand take the time to compare it to as many originals as you can. Pay a lot of attention to the beading, hardware and overall finish. These are the first obvious things that pop out to me with this cross.

                Best of luck!

                Kirby

                  cross

The frame looks like a souval frame at the points and rounded like one but does not look right on the beading .Cliff

                    cross

The catch system is like the one on the fake fj badges engraved. Cliff

Thanks for all your great info and help guys, I appreciate it!

The seller is a real gentleman, and I'm going to mail it back to him tomorrow for a full refund. Like me, he didn't know it was a bad one either.

                      Best Wishes,

                      Alan

Check out this thread concerning a fake AWS cross.

                          http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ghlight=Wagner

Notice the core design and the frame style.
Who ever is making these crosses is doing a pretty good job.
He get's the hardware looking pretty convincing but there are a few things
that one you know what to look for, are easy to see on each of his crosses.

I have only the pics of the back side as my cross is at the other location … as you can see is unmarked - I'm absolutely certain , it's a period piece ..
                            please take a look ..
