      The awardee might be mistaken for Bob Hope. Hmmm...

        I don't know if it's a cartoon, but this symbolizes the award ceremony at the last years of the war! Due the mass of awards, the presentation ceremony of the once sacred award symbol of the German soldier was been degraded to something of only marginal importance. The decoration became of little value and was handed out like an association badge.......

          Indeed a highly coveted award downgraded to something akin to a campaign medal. This pic is certainly a good analogy of that.
