    hello
can You help me to determine the originality of this imperial u-boot badge?
the seller hardly claims that he found it with his own hands, but we everyone know that in the trading of military everything is possible.so i want to be cartain.
if everything looks ok,i please also for try to identificate the maker if possible.
the badge is most real a highly patinated solid bronze
    regards

Looks like a casting from an original badge that has had the hardware removed.

As hinted it's a casting made of completely different metal than what an original is made of.

the information of used metal is only my thought, founded only on the thing that metal dont corrode when the badge is a dig up.
thank You for the answer, what material it should be?

                        Hi,

My first impression of the badge was that it is a casting due to the weak detail however, a couple of things struck me:

                        1) the overall condition (it looks ground-dug) and
                        2) the VERY sharp groove under where the central section of the barrel hinge would have been (Don, thanks for the link, that's the type I was thinking of).

Then I noticed the weak irregular striations on the reverse (weak due to casting or condition?).

Without knowing the basemetal of this badge (and that would require some destructive analysis) I am really in two minds about this badge now. Is it a casting as first appearances suggest, or is there a chance this is a ground-dug (or extremely poorly stored) genuine example? Either way, the value would be way low and probably not one I'd take a chance on.

                        Regards
                        Mike
