1870 Medal Group - What is missing?

    Good day

What is the missing medal? I think the one in the middle next to the Iron Cross will be a Long Service Medal but what is the one ion the end, the blue ribbon with black edging?

    Many thanks

    I have found it.

Frederick III - 9 year Good Conduct Medal for Other Ranks. Worn as a brooch buckle like this or as a metal suspended bar of similar design. Frederick III reigned for 90 days in 1888 before being succeeded by his son, Kaiser Wilhelm II.

Yes, the one on the right would be for a 9-year service award. The suspended hanger type. The ribbon to the left is likely to be for a Crown Order/Medal.

I'm sorry, you are mistaken. FWIII refers to Friedrich Wilhelm III, King of Prussia from 1797-1840. The first pattern long service clasps were introduced on June 18, 1825 during his reign on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of The Battle of Waterloo. They were replaced by medals in 1913.

Correct, has nothing to do with the '90 Day Kaiser' of 1888. Another, less likely possibility would be a Wuerttemberg Friedrich Order.

Thanks for correcting my assumptions. So if I understand you correctly these awards carried the FWIII lettering till replaced by the medals in 1913.

bolewts58 - thanks for the link. Very helpful.

I need to investigate further to identify the order on the right on the pale blue ribbon. The Prussian Crown Order or Wuerttemberg Friedrich Order are great suggestions.

            Thanks everyone.

All of my single Spange types have "FW III", but a number of my medal bars have "FW IV" hangers.

The bar I have with a Crown Order 4th class has a very light blue ribbon, but another in a similar color as yours has a Crown Order Medal.

In my limited experience with KO ribbons on bars, I have observed that there are numerous slight blue color variations. Just like the two above.

The EK2 on the bar deserves a closer look.

Thanks everyone - I think Crown Order would be correct to keep it Prussian.

The EK2 that was my next question. I will try to get a better picture.

The Crown Order medal would be for an enlisted man. The Crown Order for an officer.

Here is an enlargement of the EK2. What do you think?

I am trying to obtain further pictures because this is a bit slanted. The 1870 numerals look a bit off.

Certainly not an award type, nor a Jubilee type. Possibly some sort of Spangenstueck?

KO4 is missing (returned because of it s gold)
EK2 imo a Spangenstück, late one with frosty frame
