My Nephew recently inherited a couple of photos of his GG Grandfather in uniform. In one he is in a jumper with cap tally of the S.M. S. Kronprinz but in the other it looks like some kind of officer dress whites. The frame that is original as far as I know is from an American Army Barracks in St Louis. Any help would be appreciated!

the gentleman in the picture, is wearing the uniform of a german students' "Burschenschaft", or one of the various associations and circles, once very active in the german universities.
