One piece EK2 from Palestine WW1

A friend of mine recently picked up this WW1 EK2 directly from the veteran's family. They had no idea what it was but said that their relative served in Palestine during WW1.

In April 1916, some New Zealand forces such as Mounted Rifles, Camel Corps and Infantry were deployed to the Sinai Peninsula where it took part in the ultimately successful Sinai and Palestine Campaign against the Turks. New Zealanders fought in most of the battles leading up to the fall of Jerusalem and the defeat of the Ottoman Army, and were praised for their fighting alongside their Australian and British comrades.

He was wanting to know if anyone knew who the maker of a one piece WW1 EK2 might be ?

    Many thanks, Chris

There is no good answer for you. These crosses have been debated over
for years. Most of use believe that they were made as souvenirs or
    theatrical props.

Here is a link to one of many discussions -----

Chris, you might have the key to this mystery. The crowns on this have a "Turkish" look. https://www.google.com/search?sxsrf=...w=1920&bih=969

What would be the chance that these were theater made pieces by an Ottoman provider?
