I have a medalbar with two sets of Iron cross ribbons (the common combatant-version). Besides the Iron cross, what alternative decorations could be plausible on the medal bar? I suppose the Goldene militärverdienstkreuz and one, or several, classes of the Hausorden vom Hohenzollern? Any other alternatives?

Other awards with the "Iron cross ribbon"?

The bravery medal was on a black and white ribbon, the Prussian Iron cross ribbon -at least unofficially worn.

The Foundation of the bravery medal fot the 238 Division in early 1917 falls into one Time in which – inspired by frontline soldiers, about the need for a Front fighter award. The later Infanterie Assault Badge or General Assault Badge from World War II.

Thanks for all suggestions! There where more decorations using that ribbon than I anticipated!
However, after looking at the set once more, I realise that the decoration I´m looking for was lower in “rank” than the Iron cross. (It is a”tilted” bar for the evening dress so everything is “backwards”….) This, if I´m correct, would exclude the Goldene Militärverdienstkreuz, the Hausorden vom Hohenzollern, the roter Adler Orden and the Crown Order.
I suppose the presence of the Iron cross excludes the Krieger Verdienst Medaille? (Or could a coloured soldier eventually win the Iron cross?) By the way, thanks for the informative link, I had never heard of that decoration. Must be quite rare.
So, what is left are either the Tapferkeitsmedaille der 238. Infanteriedivision or the Militär Ehrenzeichen (both classes?). Considering the fact that someone removed one medal from the medalbar and left the Iron cross would suggest that the removed medal was more valuable. All of these medals seems rather spicy pricewise so…..

The EK2 was higher in precedence as a national award and would be the first award on the bar. The state awards (Goldene Militärverdienstkreuz, the Hausorden vom Hohenzollern, the roter Adler Orden and the Crown Order) would come next in order of precedence. Determining on whether the soldier was an officer or enlisted man will narrow down the possibilities.pseudo-expert

Donnerwetter,
Not sure if any black African troops were awarded an EK2 but thought this might be of some interest:

Never thought about it that way but it seems logical. So that opens up for more possibilities. Unfortunately, I think it will be more or less impossible to determine if the recipient was an officer, an NCO or and enlisted man. I have no background on the piece and as it is only an 2-place-bar, there aren´t any other awards that might help. On the other hand, the fact that it is only a 2-place-bar might point more towards an enlisted man?
Have added a photo of the bar.
Very nice photo of the coloured "Kraut" and his friends! Now thinking about it, I remember that I also have a similiar photo. Will take a snapshot of it and show it.Attached Files

I would say officer. Enlisted men received the EK2 and then maybe something from their state. Prussians got screwed in this as the EK2 was from their state. Very few enlisted men would have had the MEZ1/2 or GMMM. A junior Prussian officer would have had more of a chance for 2 prussian awards.pseudo-expert

Ah, Frack is the word. I looked for an English translation and it came out as evening dress. It is a nice looking Iron cross, unfortunately I can´t manage to see the ribbonring so I don´t know if it is makermarked. Anyway, liked the bar so I took a chance hoping to be able to restore it.
I stand corrected, an prussian officer sounds reasonable.
So, now I have some alternatives for a restoration. Not an easy fix as they are all a bit rare decorations but I got time…
Below is my photo of a rather well decorated coloured "Kraut". Is that Freikorps or Stahlhelm uniforms?Attached Files

Hohenzollern House Order would be your best bet imo.
