    Flying unit insignia

Hi Guys, had this badge for at least 15 years and never quite got to the bottom of what it is. Today I saw a pic of a Freikorp period aircraft with this red and white chequered emblems on the wings . Anyone any pointers ? Clearly not a worn badge , it is 95mm in height and in buntmetal with enamelled centre .

Do you have the photo? My guess is that the shield you saw on a Freikorps plane was likely 1920 Polizei Fliegerstafel and not exactly Freikorps. Also, I don't think this badge has anything to do with the Freikorps. My guess is that it's a car badge and may be associated with the Stahlhelmbund or some other paramilitary organization in the 1920s. Since it's a command flag, it could be for a staff car. For that matter, could it be a car badge for an Imperial command car, perhaps associated with a Flieger Abteilung?

That's a weird one, Ferg. Do you have an image of the reverse?
