    Possible Fake Annabergkreuz

This cross is currently on eBay. While it's pretty good, I believe it to be a fake, likely from Poland that is trying to emulate the first issue, unmarked cross. The 2nd issue crosses made by L. Lerch, Munich and Fleck u. Sohn, Hamburg are slightly better in detail, but different from this cross and genuine first issue crosses.

The surface details indicate that it's likely die cast from an original. The soft details on the Silesian Eagle, the rough, concave surface on the lettering, the poor details on the swords, the plastic quality of the enamel, the flywheel on the center reverse rivet and the atypical hardware all point to it being a fake. The pin, hinge and catch are very typical of post-1945 manufacture.

There are purported instances of this cross and a few other Freikorps awards being manufactured in the 1950s and early 1960s as replacement pieces. But, I believe this to just be a recent fake.

If someone disputes this, I'd like to hear their opinion.

You are totally Right, I saw that auction too.

The hardware looks like very late postwar Steinhauer used in their "replacements"
but the badge itself is a casted copy as you have said...

It was definitely a fake and went for 267 EUR. Somebody got stung. A genuine one in good condition would be about 600-650 EUR. The rising interest in Freikorps will likely see more higher quality fakes hit the market. I've been told that most of the fakes are coming out of Poland.
