    German-Stadtwehr-gorget-with-original-box-and-documen

Hello all. Please some opinions on this Gorget. Real? Desirability? and value. Has the box and document.

    Thanks all

The gorget is real and is an example of the first pattern. But, the chain does not belong to the gorget. I've never heard of these being boxed and the box likely doesn't belong either. The medallion on the top of the box is the Bremen coat of arms and may be some sort of commemorative. But, I don't think it belongs to the box. Can you remove the medallion and is there any writing on the reverse?

The gorgets were not presentation pieces, but like a police badge and were usually returned when someone left the watch. They were then likely re-issued to someone else. This is why I am almost certain that the box has been fabricated to add value to the gorget. It was probably made from an old cutlery box, a common practice in Germany these day when trying to add some bling to an award.

The document is not for the gorget, but for the gold stickpin which was a serial-numbered honor award of the Stadtwehr Bremen given when a member of the Stadtwehr had stood watch 50 times.

Here is an example of the stickpin.

Without the correct chain the gorget is worth €175-200. The document is worth €125. The box, even with the medallion is not worth anything, IMO.

Very informative answer. The box seems to be for a necklace of some type. The chain on the first example wouldn't last a day. Would you have an example of the ausweis to show us?

If you mean an ausweis for the gorget, there was a sort of membership certificate authorizing the wearing of the gorget. But, I've never seen one.

Thanks Sir for the great information on this type of gorget. I was fooled by the case and chain.

                        Thanks again!
