the helmets I've seen have two crests on either side of the helmet... really need to see close ups of liner rivets, opposite side of the pads, and a straight shot of the decal up close.

Perhaps post these pics in the Imperial headgear and helmet forums. Some guys can spot reproduction components quickly.

The liner band is not original to the helmet and the liner pads aren't German. They look Swedish to me. For what it's worth I don't like the painted crown at all. It looks new.

I agree about the crown. The "aging" on the shield and crown is actually a thin glaze of yellowish-brownish paint applied over the newly painted shield and crown and then wiped off with perhaps a cotton ball or sponge, leaving an antique glaze effect. If done skillfully, this can fool a lot of people.

I have a master's degree in art and could knock something like this off in under an hour.

                      Von Epp Helmet

By the way, I have seen versions of this with a decal in books and Hermann Historica auctions. These seem a bit too early for decals but wonder if anyone has any thoughts? Thanks!!

The late Reichswehr helmets had decals (without crown). But, I don't think wartime or Freikorps/early Reichswehr period helmets had anything but painted shields.

Would not be happy with a decal for that period
