Who can tell me more about this soldier, his unit and the skull badge?

Now that I see the actual badge, it's possible it's Bataillon Schwarze Schar (Bergerhoff) - Haarcke 805.1, page

        Nice photo Stefan!

Since he is sporting a vorlaufigen Reichswehr uniform I reckon the photo is at least from 1920, his armspeigel might be the red number and border of artillery.

Vol. 11th Infantry Division Breslau mobilized again on 7 December 1918.
        Vol.Gren.Regt. 10
        Vol.Fus.Regt 38
        Vol.Inf.Regt. 51
        Vol.Curassier Regt. 1
Vol. Dragoon Regt. 8, was Cav. Rifle Regt. with the Guards Cav.Rif.Div. In August 1919 to Upper Silesia.
        Vol.Field Art.Regt. 42
Vol.Field Art. Regt. 6, was supernumerary to requirements and remained mobilized until January 1920 when it became the Reichswehr Art.Regt. 6.
The 11th Inf.Div. formed in June 1919, with 354 Officers and 8 500 men, Reichswehr Bde. 6 in Breslau.

Brian - would this order of battle be right for Battalion Schwarze Schar? If I am correct this fellow is in the right geographic location for the battalion.

          Hi Mike

Schwarze Schar was formed in August 1920 to fight in Silesia and did have an artillery battery and it's possible that it contained elements of the Reichswehr. But, he has a number '4' on his sleeve, not a '6'. So, I don't think he's 11 Division. It's hard to determine exactly what unit the oval badge is because it's B&W. It could be artillery, machinegun or pioneer troops.
The only possibility for the skull badge, (at least according to Haarcke) is Schwarze Schar. So, at least that's a start.

I think it could be Reichswehr-Brigade 4 (Magdeburg).

I like the thought, that it is FK Schwarze Schar.

Except, the badge in the picture appears to not be the same as the badge you're showing.

The badge came first, the picture later. When I posted the badge here in past, nobody had an idea, what it was used for. The picture is the evidence, that such arm badges were worn in that period after ww1. Always great to find answers in period pictures!
