    Mint Austrian Uniform

    I have this mint Austrian Uniform. I mean dead mint. never issued. Not even a single moth hole on it. A large size as well. The buttons were removed. Just curious how difficult is it to find the boards and buttons? and also can someone decipher the markings?

    Wow, you're right this is a super clean jacket! I am very familiar with Austrian WWI stamps and these are not too different.

    I think G.K. is the maker and the number 1 is a size stamp. Number 1 would reflect the largest size made. Is it a big jacket?

    The stacked letters and date to the right are the depot inspection stamps with the two bottom actually identifying individual inspectors.

    The stamps on the other pocket I suspect are unit stamps meaning that this jacket was indeed issued at least to a unit supply if not to an individual soldier.

    The buttons are actually hard to come by in non relic condition. I think they are the same pattern of flat zinc dish button that was used in WWI.

    I'm not sure about the shoulder boards. In WWI they had no type of unit markings or piping on them like the Germans.

      Thanks for the information! Yes it is a very large size. It fits me and actually is a bit large on me.
      I do think the buttons were stripped on it for a reason, being it was to be reissued war time to an auxiliary WH unit. But I think then again it was never worn. And possibly the war ended before it could be reissued.
      This patch is on the right sleeve. A rare unit of the Standschützen. Original application for sure.

        Photos (and samples of originals) show many variations among Standschützen tunics: some with collar tabs, some without; some with shoulder boards, some without, and in various combinations. I wouldn't go further than replacing the buttons. You can look for appropriate boards but finding a set piped in the classic Standschützen moss-green will not be easy.
