Not Freikorps and likely not German. I would guess Italian or possibly French and probably at least post WWI and maybe post-WWII.

I definitely agree with the "not Freikorps" sentiments.
The shield shape the skull sits on is not typical to any German design, and neither is the skull.

not italian; don't know what it is but the skull is similar at the Cossack
badge (the original badge have the skull in metal) just two cents..

I do not know that much about the Freikorps, but this patch looks like the fake skull patches coming out of Vietnam. There are several Vietnam war patches that look similar to this patch. Just a guess!

Now that you mention it, that makes sense. I used to live in Vietnam and I remember patches like these for sale in the markets in Hanoi.

Looks similar to the U.S. Army Special Forces "Mike Force" Vietnam patch.
They were a quick reaction force that went to SF outposts and others that were under attack and in danger of being overrun.
