Steve, the ADAC is a very large German drivers' association.

The Ahr valley is near the western border:
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad_Neuenahr-Ahrweiler.
It could be old as the ADAC more or less swallowed or gave no place to other German drivers ' associations, but it is just my guess... (here you have the Ahr-Automobil-Club)
Maybe the back side could tell something to the specialists here.
