Nice photo.
Top badge is a Reichswehr armspiegel.
The number is difficult to see, but he appears to be an Obergefreiter (shoulder klappen in conjunction with the horizontal bar beneath the armspiegel), who also saw service with FK v. Epp.
His troddel looks all white, "Mannschafts-Troddeln" for 1st Komp.
Judging by his cap insignia the photo is possibly 1920-21.

It's number 42 for 2. bayer. Reichswehr-Schützen-Regiment 42, later shortened to Reichswehr-Schützen-Regiment 42.
Freikorps Epp became Reichswehr Brigade 21 in the Vorläufige Reichswehr in June 1919 and merged with Rw Brigade 22 to form Rw Brigade 21 in the Übergangsheer in October 1919.
Rw Brigade 21 in the Vorläufige Reichswehr (June-Oct 1919) was made up the following:
1. bayer. Reichswehr-Schützen-Regiment 41
2. bayer. Reichswehr-Schützen-Regiment 42
Bayer. Reichswehr-Jäger-Btl 21
Bayer. Reichswehr-Kavallerie-Regiment 21
1. bayer. leichtes Artillerie-Regiment 21
1. bayer. schwere Artillerie-Abteilung 21
in the Übergangsheer (Oct 1919-May 1920):
Reichswehr-Schützen-Regiment 41
Reichswehr-Schützen-Regiment 42
Reichswehr-Kavallerie-Regiment 21
leichtes Reichswehr-Artillerie-Regiment 21
Reichswehr-Pionier-Btl 21
in the Übergangsheer (May 1920-Sept 1921) and then the 100,000 Mann Reichswehr (1921-1935):
