Unusual Prinzen size 1st pattern Ehrhardt Wilhelmshaven Badge

I recently picked up this unusual Prinzen size II Marine-Brigade Wilhelmshaven (Ehrhardt) unit badge. It's only 52mm and at one time had a pin on the back. It never had holes for sewing on the arm and appears to have been purposely fitted with a pin. So, I assume it was worn on the breast pocket.
But, at the moment, I'm not sure what its purpose was. Perhaps it was worn by auxilliary units (maybe Einwohnerwehr/Stadtwehr) attached to the Brigade.

The detail on it is very fine - actually better than you see on the full-size arm-badge.

Nice find, and a small badge @ 2 inches in height? Makes sense it would go on a pocket, or hat... like Grenzshutz badges.

I wonder which Einwohnerwehr/Stadtwehr would have been attached to 1st Marine Brigade IF it was from 1919-21?

Well it would be no later than March 1920 as that's when the 2nd pattern came into existence.

It could have been used anywhere the Brigade operated in 1919, including Ober-Schlesien.

It would be great to find a 1919-20 period photo of a person wearing this on a hat/coat pocket. With the pin mechanism I cant see it being worn on the sleeve.
