Good luck on the edelweis Brian!
I felt the risk was ok, especially at a low price... but his shipping cost was disappointing. Hopefully he wraps things up well.

eMedals seems to be a good outfit, but Im not sure about a few of their badges. They do work with folks on pricing, and recently I was able to get a nice piece at a very good price. They also split shipping with me on top of it.

Only time I've seen a chevron with number would be paramilitary, post Freikorps era! Seeing the number with the Cheimgau badge was bizarre, but the real give away was the disparity in condition between the badge and the cloth it was mounted onto. The information here on how to spot fake Epp badges is excellent, there is really no reason to get ripped off.
On that note.. What are your thoughts on this Epp badge combo? I dont see the date or makers name.. something Id expect to see on an early badge. Oxidizing is weird, can bronze do that?

His fakes seem to center on the Epp and Chiemgau badges. I've never seen him try to peddle any other Freikorps fakes.

He once got $250 on US eBay for an Epp badge. That's what probably keeps him putting these up for sale; but only on US eBay. If he tried it in German eBay, he'd get a lot of flack.

I've seen several US, Canadian and English dealers passing these off (I suspect innocently) as genuine. I doubt they know they're fake. Last year, eMedals sold one of the fake Epp badges all pimped out on a fake diamond with a blue/white chevron above and silver number below the badge for some horrendous price.

Just for the record, the chevron and number thing is pure fantasy, invented I suspect to give these crap badges more of an air of authenticity. Unfortunately, if your Google FK Epp, the fakes show up.

That Epp in the link to eMedals is the second type of shield without date. These were a much lower relief around the rim and therefore thinner.

Although Haarcke doesn't differentiate this one from the other type with the artist's name and date 1919 as to period of issue, I believe these are a 2nd issue and probably used when FK Epp was Reichswehr Schuetzen-Regt. 41 and then later as a tradition badge.

Due to long life of these badges, a lot were made, including those marked with an RZM on the back and a slightly smaller version for officers.

I had an SA Tradition Badge version, 20 years ago on a pale blue diamond with gold cord trim with an RZM on the badge and an RZM tag on the back of the diamond.

By the way, the price is quite high for this one on eMedals.

Garbage from that lying crook deville68e. He has an endless supply of these and fake von Epp badges.

Take the time to look through this thread. I show an original in post #2 and there's another of this A-hole's fakes in post #1.
