I hate to break it to you. But, I don't believe this is Freikorps. I know this is the badge illustrated in Hartung. But, I believe that it's a mistake (There are several in that book). Check out Haarcke for the the correct badge. The wreath is quite different.

I've posted a pic from von Salomon's 1938 book for comparison to show the difference. The badge you show in particular lacks the bow at the base of the wreath - a common feature on military badges with oakleaf wreathes.

IMO this is likely a Brunswick police collar badge from the 20s.

No. I don't think so, especially for a Zeitfreiwillige unit. These unit were only temporary, for a very short period. They got one set of badges and that was it.

In truth, there are very few Freikorps units which had variations of their badges, except those that were around for awhile, were large or had money to issue another version. These badges are mostly well-documented.

Admittedly tracking in-depth details about some Freikorps material is difficult.

I expressed an opinion based on some pretty solid evidence. But, I could be wrong.

I noticed you posted it on Feldgrau. But, nobody has commented yet. If anyone knows if it's what you think it is, there are members there who will know, one way or the other.

I hope the user Ruhrpottpreuse has an explanation
