For years a debate has raged as to whether Freikorps von Heydebreck wore the Imperial crown as a sleeve badge or hat badge.
References, going all the way back to von Salomon have variously listed either or both.
Finally, on eBay there's a signed postcard, detailing service in Oberschlesien in this Freikorps, and as can plainly be seen in the photo, the crown is worn both on the hat and the sleeve.
Interestly, the 2 badges are the same size, instead of the hat badge being like the smaller pin-back crowns that are always sold as von Heydebreck hat badges. So, I suppose a new debate can start as to whether this is just this man's style, while others wore the smaller crown, or whether this was the norm.
Also, interestly the sleeve badge is attached directly to the tunic instead of on the usual navy-blue cloth covered, egg-shaped backplate, which was sewn on the sleeve.
