IMO, Petz and Lorenz SA1 would be a more uncommon version of this award compared to others, especially in enamel.

Very nice SE 1 Class Michal. I really like these birds

Undoubtably original IMO but I find it interesting to see from your picture that even on originals sometime the enamel wasnt exactly flush/even with the metallic outline of the detail

        Regards

          Thanks Guys,

one more question - as it is marked with 'bell' I think it's quite early piece - am I right?

            Hi Michal

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will step in if I'm out in left field again but it is my undestanding from my readings here that PERIOD (1919-21) ISSUED pieces were typically cruder and made of plain metal often 1 piece hollow stamped with painted devices or just folded clips to secure the devices and crude hardware . Fancier enamelled (and other) versions showed up later (late 20s & 30s) as private purchase pieces

            Regards

            JC

This is correct. The very first field issue pieces were quite crude, made of iron, tombak or alpaka, painted black or silver or in the case of tombak, left in a raw brass finish, with pins like WW1 wound badges. They were either 1-piece with the crescent and cartouche painted silver, or with the crescent and cartouche silvered and attached with bent-over wire pins.

The Petz and Lorenz eagle that started this thread is 1930s and perhaps even early 1940s.

Better quality versions became available likely shortly after the 3rd Polish uprising in 1921, with proper rivets and better hinge and pin construction.

The enamel versions probably first appeared in the mid-1920s. For example, Beco was advertising them in their 1925 catalogue. Meybauer was also making an enamel version about this time.
