    Weimar Period Visor Cap

Wanted to post this cap up for a discussion. I had this up for sale a few years ago concerning the possible replacement of the peak of the cap. Never really got a solid opinion one way or the other. But I do lean towards a replacement. It is stamped to "Pioneer Battalion 2" which was the 14th Dragoons if I remember right, a traditions unit. It is a size 58, dated 1927 and has some other stamps inside the crown. There are some repairs to the crown exterior and you can also see where the traditions badge was along with the other roundels. Believe it came out of a theatre storage after the fall of East Germany.

Anyway, could I get some opinions on the peak and also what the value might be? Appreciate the help!

It obviously has a replacement sweatband and this photo shows some repairs to the top of the cap.

What kind of material is the peak?

Looks like a modern peak from the time after ww2.

It appears to be a plastic like material. I don't think it is vulcanfiber.

When I saw the photo, I thought the same about the material.

I also think this has been restored with a more recent visor and had the peak modified. The Issue caps had a flat saucer shape with a flat peak.
