    v Loewenfeld Cross

This is my von Loewnefeld Cross
This is the most underrated award of the Freicorps/Weimar period. The brigades founder von Loewenfeld was Doenitz's mentor. He originally had the idea for U-boats attacking in packs but he didnt have the use of radio to see it through. Also it was commanded by Arnauld de la Perriere the most successful U-boat commander in history.

It's difficult to find originals of the 1st class. It's unfortunate that the pin has been replaced on your cross.

Here's one with the original pin.

Hi, so you think this was a second class turned into a first class?

The images aren't showing on my computer anymore. I don't know if this is a site problem or just a problem with my computer.

If your cross is vaulted, then it's a 1st class with a pin replacement. If your cross is flat, then it's a 2nd class that has been converted.

Nice crosses gents. Please let me show you mine which is somehow different. It´s made of zink and it seems like an unofficial version. Has anybody an idea about the makermarks?

I hate to tell you this. But, yours is a modern replica made by Gode. Gode is a German firm that makes rather cheap replicas of a variety of Imperial German and Freikorps awards, not to mention American police badges.

There were never any unofficial versions of this cross. Nor was it made by anyone else, but Paul Küst. It was made once, with about 3 different finishes, one style of pin and awarded for a short period from 1920-21.

There are many excellent reproductions of this award around. But, they are easy to spot because they have the wrong hardware on the back, are usually made of the wrong type of metal and have the wrong kind of finish.

                        Hi Brian,
Interesting...so what's the finish on your 2nd class (on bar)? And can you show the examples of all 3 finishes?

And btw...just checked pictures properly for the first time because of server issues...I have my doubts about the 2nd class you showed (with envelope). Better pictures needed.

There are problems with the site and I haven't been able to upload pictures.

What are your concerns about the 2nd class?

Some details are different from what I'd expect to see, really. Small pictures do not allow me to check for some "watermarks", but it really looks different thus far.
