It could be period done, after the guy got out of service.

                Sword

This one has me stumped , The blade is excellent the hilt looks like low quality the hanger on the handle looks older and like it doesnt belong . all of my paranoid observations could be for nothing but i just need a little info and it seems tough to find for this rig .

In my opinion an interesting looking piece of history!!!!

"Parole Heimat! Wir bleiben was wir waren, die Totenkopfhusaren!" A typical slogan of a soldier, who left the 17th cavalry (Braunschweiger Husaren Regiment 17). A Reservist!

The tradition skull is also an interesting pattern. It existed typical Imperial skulls and other skulls, that were typical Wehrmacht skulls. This skull pattern (identical design) was used since Imperial times, after ww1 in the Reichswehr in the Weimarer Republik and also on Wehrmacht headgear.

An opinion should be the result of thought, not a substitute for it.

The sword is proper for a Prussian KS 89 model cavalry sword. The addition if the skull and cloth armband(?) would be post service. Nice example. Please keep me in mind if you get tired of it and want to move it along for something else.

                      All the best,

                      Tony
