It is from the Stahlhelmbund. No Freikorps.

Specifically, this is a specialist sleeve-badge of the Stahlhelm denoting the wearer's former arm of service in WWI; in this case, Infantry. Some people attempt to call this a Sturmtruppen specialist badge because of the grenade. But, since I've never seen one with just crossed rifles (for infantry), I have always dismissed the Sturmtruppen identification as an attempt to "value add" the badge.

There are perhaps 9 or 10 different badges in different designs for various specialties.

Althought this one is by far the most common, they are all quite scarce and it's nice to find it complete with the backplate and proper blue cloth backing.

      Nice badge!!

Infantry bagdes are the most common badges. One or two months ago I have seen one in a "Buy it now" auction. The price was 45 Euro.

PS: The other rarer badges are more expensive.

                answer to post 3:
there were much more of such badges as 9 or 10. That's a fact!

21 were shown in an order from the Stahlhelm High Command BK/IIa 1625/32.
                They are known as:
Kennzeichen der früheren Waffengattungen (former branches).

Maybe Sergeant 08 remembers in what thread he showed the drawings that were given to him by me to show them at this forum! I thought I also had given him a few photographs where such badges were in use. Over 75% of the various badges are extremely rare.
